U.S. Responds to Execution of American Journalist by ISIS

An ISIS terrorist savagely beheaded American journalist James Foley on camera.

James Foley was an American journalist who had gone on several trips to Syria in order to report information on the Syrian Civil War. However, during a trip in 2011, he went missing for an extended period of time. Fortunately, he survived this ordeal. However, even though he was captured before, he decided to return to Syria again. When he went back in the year 2012, he went missing. Unfortunately, this time, he was never seen again, until an ISIS militant posted a video. In this video, an ISIS militant stated that the group had captured James Foley. In the video, James Foley was initially shown on his knees and was later shown to be killed by beheading. However, the U.S. government still has not verified if the man in the video was, in fact, James Foley. ISIS posted this video to demonstrate their anger towards the U.S.

In his statement on the execution video, President Obama recognized how dangerous ISIS was. Some House members feel that the video is a declaration of war. Lawmakers and members of the White House felt that the U.S. should not back down in the face of this execution and that it should eliminate the group.

In the video, the ISIS militant stated that another journalist would be killed if the U.S. continued to take action against ISIS. U.S. officials are, therefore, debating on what action they should take next.

As of now, airstrikes continue in Iraq to aid people who are subject to ISIS’s actions. Iraqi forces were able to get the area surrounding the  Mosul Dam back with the aid of U.S. airstrikes. Today, the battle in Iraq continues.
