Eyesight and the ability to understand your surroundings is a true gift in our daily lives. Having the capability to see the beauty of this world and see our loved ones is something amazing. Yet, eyesight is definitely taken for granted. Staring at our tv screens or computers for hours or even lack of nutrition all lead to damages to our sight. So below is a list of 5 foods that can significantly improve your vision.
This is not a food but a compound that is found in high concentrations in the lens of the eye. It plays a significant role in keeping it healthy. Glutathione performs as an antioxidant. It maintains the structure of the lens proteins while playing a role in various enzyme systems. Therefore, by eating foods that are high in glutathione, you supply your eye with a key part in maintaining eyesight. Foods high in glutathione include:

Brazil nuts are rich in vitamin E and selenium. Both nutrients help to prevent and inhibit cataracts. A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye which leads to a decrease in vision. It is the most common cause of blindness and is conventionally treated with surgery. Now selenium is a mineral found in the composition of the eye. So eating the mineral or foods that have the mineral will help rebuild and maintain the layers of one’s eye.
This anti-inflammatory root contains a large amount of carotenoids and vitamin C. It also shares carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin E, and anti-oxidants. Turmeric has many benefits to the body including increasing brain function and awareness, lowering the risk of heart disease and and a major anti-inflammatory within the body. The carotenoids that have been most studied in this regard are beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Lutein and zeaxanthin may be protective in eye disease because they absorb damaging blue light that enters the eye.
The world’s richest source of Omega-3 fatty acids, purslane boasts a bounty of health benefits essential for supporting clear eyesight. It is rich in carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin E, and many antioxidants (including glutathione), which are all necessary for keeping the eyes healthy.
This fruit contains compounds which boost visual acuity and improve vision. In Italy, a study found that a mixture of these compounds called anthyocyanides, along with Vitamin E stopped the formation of cataracts. British pilots back in World War 1 knew they were incredibly beneficial for the eyes, and consumed bilberries before flying. Tasty fruits with similar compounds that improve vision include blueberry, cranberry, blackberry, grape, raspberry, and wild cherry.
